Maybe you've been here before and remember that I've offered guided tours? I'm sorry, but I will have to disappoint you this time:
Please keep in mind that all those agencies usually have bookings about four weeks in advance!
Freiburg Future Lab has specialized on these ecological destinations.
The owner, Mrs. Astrid Mayer, is a professional journalist and book author right for this topic. With her broad and specific knowledge about the subject, she and her colleagues will be able to offer guided tours that go well beyond the Vauban district - also the other new district, called "Rieselfeld" might bei inclded, the "solar classroom" and many other locations in and around Freiburg. Freiburg Future Lab aims at specialized professionals but may as well prepare an individual journey for you.
Another renowned agency is Freiburg Aktiv. Just like with Mrs. Mayer, those colleagues have ample knowledge on the subject, several guides - and you may book tours that could add events like biking around the city, riding a historic tramway cab together - holiday-like activities.
Erich Lutz is a professional gardening planner and consultant, he has been on Vauban district from the first hour and will be able to offer very specific biological perspectives that the other angencies might lack in this detail.
Just like the other agencies named already here, Innovation Academy work on Vauban district sonce the very beginning. The focus of their offer cycles a bit more around the topics environmental education and seminaries. You'll also get "just a tour" if you wish.
You may have discovered that I did not mention other agencies offering Vauban tours, too. All I can say is that I don't know their expertise and have not yet participated in guided tours with them in order to check their knowledge (or learn from them).
There is a different Freiburg (Fribourg) in Switzerland and a much smaller Freiburg in Saxony; Germany. Please don't mix then up when buying tickets.
In Freiburg, take the tram line number 3 from "Hauptbahnhof" to destination "Vauban", leave preferrably at "Paula-Modersohn-Platz"
You may buy tickets at the ticket vending machine next to the tramway rails or else buy them at the vending machines that exist in each tramway (one in the front, one in the rear of all cars, if you don't have much time.
Please obliterate (stamp) your single fare tickets in the tramway, which is not necessary if you bought a 24 hour ticket.
When leaving the train in Freiburg main station, watch out for the big bridge crossing all he rails in the southern part of the station. Use the lift or walk right up there, you'll almost stumble into the tramway stop.
Take the tram line Nr. 3 (orangered) heading to “Vauban”. It's most convenient to leave the tram at “Paula-Modersohn-Platz”, which is the ninth stop.
We would certainly be delighted if you'd not need to take a car. The proper address would be either "Merzhauser Straße 170, 79100 Freiburg im Breisgau" or "Vaubanallee 18" for your GPS. Besides the usual resources, you'll find a good map of our district here
